Homeopathy for treatment of Childhood Asthma

Homeopathy can help with asthma in the acute state as well as helping with the frequency of breathlessness and asthma attacks. Homeopathy will strengthen the child’s immune system and build up a defense mechanism to recurrent infections and illness.

During a homeopathic consultation, the homeopath will need to know the symptoms of the asthma, medical history, and pregnancy and delivery history. Also the personality traits of the child, this all helps to find the cause, the hereditary tendencies and precipitating factors.

Eczema is of particular interest to the homeopath, as there is a well-known correlation between childhood asthma and eczema. When eczema has been suppressed or pushed inwards towards the vital organs by topical steroids, the asthma can emerge. When the child is taking homeopathic remedies for asthma, the eczema can appear but only for a short time, this is s very good sign as it is seen as reversal of the disease process.

When you child has allergies, it can lead to asthma as the allergies can trigger inflammation of the airway and produce asthma symptoms. Exposure to an allergen results in a runny nose, itchy eyes, and wheezing and chest tightness. This inflammation makes the airways smaller and so very difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs.

This creates symptoms of asthma, cough, chest tightness, shortness of breath, wheezing.

Asthma Triggers:-

  • Allergens, pollen, animal hair and dust mites.
  • Irritants, tobacco smoke, strong smells, household cleaners and paint.
  • Weather changes, temperature changes, humidity, damp weather and strong winds.
  • Viral, sinus infections, pneumonia and chest infections.
  • Foods, milk, eggs, peanuts and shellfish.
  • Emotional stress lowers the immune system. Homeopathy considers physical and emotional factors together. Anger, sadness, anxiety or even parents divorcing can affect asthma.

Some remedies that can help

  • Arsenicum album, asthmas from respiratory infections or allergies, there is tight wheezing, wheezing from cats, smoke or dust, patient must sit up or bend forward. Patient is very anxious and fearful with shortness of breath.
  • Cuprum, sudden severe spasm with deep violent cough, cyanosis, and face turns blue, asthma attack from anger, fright or strong emotions.
  • Apis, asthma from acute allergic reactions, may have symptoms of oedema, swollen lips, hives, and tight painful breath with dry wheezing.
  • Natrum sulpuricum, asthma worse in damp weather, worse for exertion and after grief, chronic bronchitis with rattling mucous cough.

Homeopathy is an individual based medicine, the treatment, dosage and frequency depends on the person and their symptoms.

Asthma attacks can lead to emergency hospitalization requiring intensive medical treatment. This in itself causing anxiety, fear and stress to the child and the parent. Homeopathy is a safe, gentle and effective form of treatment, treating the cause of the asthma. As a nurse I have seen children in extreme difficulty, it is a very frightening time for the child and the parents. It is amazing to see how quickly children respond to the correct homeopathic treatment, preventing the recurrence of asthma and its complications.
